Manipur Police has stated that multiple arms and ammunition were voluntarily surrendered by the public in different districts of the state following the appeal of the governor of Manipur.
According to the police, several weapons were surrendered at Singjamei Police Station in Imphal West District yesterday. The recovered items included one SMC carbine with a magazine, one double-barrel firearm, one country-made rifle with a magazine, one .32 pistol, three 36 HE hand grenades, one carbine magazine, one LMG magazine, one INSAS magazine, three AK ammunition rounds, four stun grenades, four tear smoke grenades, five tear smoke shells, and one patka helmet.
Similarly, officials reported that in Churachandpur District, arms were surrendered at CCP Police Station. The recovered items included one SLR 7.62mm rifle with a magazine and three .303 rifles, each with a magazine.
In addition to the surrender of arms, security forces reportedly carried out search operations and area domination exercises in both hill and valley districts, particularly in fringe and vulnerable areas. To ensure the movement of essential goods, security forces facilitated the passage of 291 and 229 vehicles along National Highways 2 and 37, respectively.
As part of efforts to maintain law and order, authorities stated that strict security measures had been implemented in all vulnerable locations. Security convoys were deployed in sensitive areas to ensure the safe movement of vehicles. Additionally, a total of 111 checkpoints (Nakas) had been set up across various districts, though no detentions were reported in connection with any violations.
Officials affirmed that stringent measures would continue to be enforced to enhance security and prevent further disturbances across the state.
