Imphal, Nov 5:
The People’s Alliance for Peace and Progress, Manipur (PAPPM), expresses its appreciation for the powerful declarations made during the Thadou Convention 2024 in Guwahati on 2nd November. These resolutions stand as a monumental affirmation of the Thadou community’s unwavering dedication to preserving its distinct identity, culture, and heritage.
A press release by the PAPPM said, “Your declaration beautifully asserts the Thadou identity’ as a separate and sovereign cultural entity from the politically motivated Kuki. By rejecting imposed identities and clarifying the distinctions of the Thadou people, you uphold a proud legacy passed down through generations. This statement not only defends the dignity of the Thadou identity but also strengthens the cultural and historical integrity of Manipur’s diverse ethnic landscape. We are especially moved by the Thadou community’s firm stance against misrepresentation, appropriation, and acts that undermine Thadou identity. The call for accurate and respectful recognition, devoid of politically motivated impositions, reflects a deeply rooted principle of self-determination and respect. The Thadou Convention 2024’s condemnation of violence, human rights abuses, and divisive agendas powerfully advocate for human dignity and non-violent resolutions.”
PAPPM also acknowledge the significant peace-building efforts undertaken by the Thadou Community International (TCI) in Jiribam, where the endorsement of the peace process and commitment to dialogue has paved the way for reconciliation among communities. The exemplary collaboration with representatives from various communities, including the Meitei, Hmar, Thadou, Paite, and Mizo, reinforces shared belief in a unified Manipur.
