Manipur University Vice-Chancellor Professor N. Lokendra today stated that the ideas and philosophy of Swami Vivekananda continue to inspire love for the nation and self-reliance among the youth.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the “Run for Swadeshi” programme organised by the National Service Scheme Cell, Manipur University, at the university campus traffic point in connection with the 164th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. The run was organised under the guidance of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, and covered the route from the Manipur University campus traffic point to Kakwa Bazar.
Professor N. Lokendra said Swami Vivekananda, even in the 19th century, worked tirelessly to awaken the youth through his thoughts and vision. He noted that Vivekananda’s ideas played a key role in helping Indians understand their own culture and identity, and influenced social and political leaders of the country. He added that the observance of Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary is aimed at reminding present-day leaders and youth of those enduring values.
The programme was attended by Dean, School of Human and Environmental Sciences, Professor S. Jibonkumar, Manipur University Registrar Professor M. Premjit, Manipur University Teachers’ Association President Dr. Ksh. Narayan, and Dean of Students’ Welfare Professor Ch. Ibohal, among others.
