Lecture on Academic Publishing Challenges

The Centre for Study of Social Inclusion (CSSI), Manipur University, organised a one-day online and offline lecture on the theme “From Fieldwork to Publication: Possibilities and Challenges” at the CSSI Conference Hall.
The lecture was delivered by Dr. Ajailiu Niumai, Professor at the University of Hyderabad, who spoke on the challenges of transforming field-based research into academically rigorous and socially relevant scholarship.
Dr. Niumai discussed the growing influence of rankings, citations and publication metrics in academia while also highlighting issues related to institutional hierarchies, power structures and global inequalities in knowledge production.
He stressed the importance of ethically grounded research on marginalised communities, including tribal societies, caste exclusion and gender violence, stating that fieldwork should be viewed as a process of ethical engagement rather than mere data collection.
The programme was attended by Prof. M. Lily Devi, Director of the Centre for Women Study, Dr. Yumlembam Khogen Singh of the Department of Sociology, Manipur University, and research scholars.
