Eikhoigi Club (EC), Singjamei Oinam Thingel, Imphal West District, felicitated Sapam Sarjit Singh, who played in the right-wing position for the Manipur Team in the recently concluded Sub Junior Boys’ National Football Championship in Karnataka. The team finished as runners-up, losing to the host team, Karnataka, by a score of 5 goals to 1. It is noteworthy that Sarjit Singh is a player from EC. Upon their return to Imphal airport, the players of the Manipur Team were warmly welcomed and felicitated by various dignitaries. Eikhoigi Club (EC) also gave them a grand reception and wished them success in their future endeavors.
Speaking on the occasion, Oinam Romen, an executive member of the Club and a prominent political activist from the Singjamei Assembly Constituency, emphasized the crucial role sports play in uplifting Manipur at the national and international levels in various sports events. He highlighted that, as a powerhouse of sports in India, Manipur continues to bring laurels to the country through its sporting achievements.
Romen further stated that youngsters should be groomed from the grassroots level to become excellent sportspersons. He stressed that sports should go hand in hand with education and should be part of the school curriculum under the new education policy, recognizing the many benefits of sports. He noted that Manipuris are naturally gifted in various fields, such as sports, art, and culture, and need to be nurtured by parents, elders, and society. It is our collective responsibility to help shape them into responsible individuals in their respective fields, Romen Singh asserted.
