Imphal, Nov 21:
The Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal, in partnership with Seva Bharati Manipur, launched a farmer training initiative focused on modern agricultural techniques and winter crop management. The program took place at the Rajashri Bhagyachandra Skill Development Center in Haraorou and aimed to equip farmers with advanced knowledge in sustainable farming practices.
The training covered essential topics, including crop rotation, pest management, organic farming, and winter crop cultivation. Speaking at the event, CAU Dean Indira Sarangtham highlighted the significant role of the initiative in supporting rural communities. She noted that CAU and Seva Bharati have been collaborating for the past 4-5 years to promote sustainable agriculture, which has positively impacted the livelihoods of farmers in the region.
A key focus of the program was addressing soil fertility issues and managing pest infestations. Dean Sarangtham emphasized that adopting innovative techniques would enable farmers to boost productivity, enhance crop quality, and strengthen the state’s agricultural economy. She further stressed the potential of these efforts to empower farmers and contribute to the overall development of Manipur.
Farmers were introduced to advanced agricultural tools and techniques, such as red seed varieties adapted to local conditions. Equipment, including a dryer machine and a mini rice mill, was distributed to help farmers improve efficiency and reduce post-harvest losses. Training also emphasized the benefits of mechanized farming for sustainable growth.
The program extended its impact to vulnerable communities by providing resources and aid. Two orphaned children from Jakradhore village in Jiribam’s Borobekra sub-division were supported under the initiative, which included assistance for their education and welfare.
