Amidst the ongoing crisis in Manipur, three prominent filmmakers from the state have brought pride to their community by serving as Juries at the ongoing 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI).
Renowned filmmaker Borun Thokchom is part of the esteemed International Cinema selection committee. National award-winning filmmaker Ronel Haobam serve as one of the Juries for the Non-Feature Film Indian Panorama while acclaimed filmmaker Oinam Gautam has been appointed as a Feature Film Jury member for Indian Panorama.
The three filmmakers are officially attending the event, which opened on November 20 and will culminate on November 28. Asia’s biggest film event has attracted prominent filmmakers from across the globe.
Additionally, ten students from Manipur, nominated by the National Film Development Cooperation, and four delegates sent by the state government, are also attending to witness the global cinema trending and master classes from renowned global filmmakers. Meanwhile, “Boong”, the debut Manipuri feature film of Lakshmipriya Devi, is the only feature Film from Manipur to compete in Best Debut Director of Indian category. The event will also features 180 international films from 81 countries, including a special segment on Goan Films. This recognition of Manipur’s filmmaking talent offers a beacon of hope for filmmakers communities in Manipur amidst the current challenges facing the state.
