Awareness Campaign on Voluntary Blood Donation held at Bishnupur

An awareness campaign on voluntary blood donation was held today at the Bishnupur Municipal Council Conference Hall in connection with National Voluntary Blood Donation Day 2025. The event was organised by the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Bishnupur District Branch under the leadership of President and DC Bishnupur, Pooja Elangbam, IAS, and Chairman, Dr. Wahengbam Gulapi.
The programme was organised in collaboration with the State Blood Transfusion Council, Manipur, Manipur State AIDS Control Society, Kumbi Ideal Youth Development Organisation (KIYDO), Chhayatap Foundation, United Club Lamangdong, and the Department of Transfusion Medicine, RIMS.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Wahengbam Gulapi said that blood donation is a noble act that saves lives and promotes good health and social harmony. He highlighted that any healthy individual aged between 18 and 65 years and weighing over 45 kilograms can safely donate blood — men every three months and women every four months. Even persons above 60 years can donate if they are medically fit. He described blood donation as a divine act, a service to humanity that sustains life and reflects the will of the Almighty.
The programme was also attended by Shyamkumar Tongbram, SDO/BDO Nambol and Chairman of the Publicity and Public Relations Committee of IRCS Bishnupur; Khangembam Netaji, President of KIYDO Kumbi; and Social Worker Mongjam Newton, among others.
During the function, 51 voluntary blood donors were felicitated with Certificates of Honour and Certificates of Appreciation for their contributions. Volunteers of the Indian Red Cross Society, including Irengbam Jugeshwar (Oinam Awang Leikai), R.K. Romola (Khongman Mangjil), Dr. Mongjam Ranjit (Laitonjam Khori Leikai), and Meinam Ibemhal (Bishnupur), actively assisted in the successful conduct of the event.
