94th Haipou Jadonang Martyrs’ Day observed at Puiluan Village

The 94th Haipou Jadonang Martyrs’ Day was commemorated at Puiluan Village, the birthplace of Haipou Jadonang, under Nungba Sub-Division, Noney District. The programme was organized by the Haipou Jadonang Memorial Trust, Puiluan, under the theme “Makam Mei Ruai Guangh Tupuni”, symbolizing the enduring spirit of unity and resilience embodied by Jadonang.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Salemyang Gangmei, Member of the Collective Leadership, NSCN(IM)/GPRN, as Chief Guest, and N. Gonmei, Vice President of the United Naga Council (UNC), as Guest of Honour.
Dr. Benjamin Gangmei, Associate Professor at United College, Chandel, delivered a keynote address highlighting the life and contributions of Haipou Jadonang. He described Jadonang as a spiritual leader and activist who resisted British colonial rule and strived to preserve traditional Naga culture. The establishment of the Heraka movement, he noted, was a milestone in standardizing traditional belief systems and resisting colonial influence.
The day’s observance included garlanding, traditional dances, songs, and a silent prayer in memory of Jadonang’s sacrifice. Leaders and executives from various organizations, including the Rongmei Naga Council Manipur (RNCM) and its frontal bodies—the Rongmei Naga Youth Organisation Manipur (RNYOM), Rongmei Naga Luhphwam Manipur (RNLPM), and Rongmei Naga Students’ Organization Manipur (RNSOM)—also took part in the programme.
The commemoration served as a reminder of Jadonang’s sacrifices and his dedication to the cause of freedom. It underscored the importance of preserving cultural heritage and promoting solidarity within the community. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to the ideals of unity, strength, and collective struggle championed by Jadonang, whose legacy continues to inspire generations.
