Teachers and students protest over prolonged vacancy of Biramangol College Principal

Teachers and students of Biramangol College, Sawombung, today staged a sit-in protest at the college campus demanding immediate appointment of a Principal, as the post has remained vacant for the past five months. The protest was jointly organised by the Biramangol College Teachers’ Association and the Biramangol College Students’ Union, with participation from faculty members, non-teaching staff, and students.
Speaking during the protest, Magazine Secretary of the Students’ Union, Tensubam Makok Leishemba Meitei, said that although an order for appointing a new Principal was issued on July 16, 2025, the selected teacher did not join duty, leaving the post vacant since August 17. He lamented that this has paralysed the functioning of the college, with outgoing students unable to receive necessary documents, thereby putting their careers at risk.
President of the Biramangol College Teachers’ Association, L. Shyamsunder Singh, also expressed dismay that despite repeated representations to the Principal Secretary and the Director of Education (U), no concrete steps had been taken. He noted that the absence of a Principal has stalled several academic and administrative activities, including the annual sports meet and the issuance of provisional certificates. Staff members too are facing severe hardships without proper leadership, he added.
The protesting bodies announced that if the government fails to appoint a Principal by September 1, the employees of the college will launch a black badge protest while continuing their duties.
