Imphal, April 8:
The Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) has formally welcomed four former cadres of the NSCN-IM into its fold, marking what it described as a significant step toward strengthening the collective aspirations of the Zeliangrong people. In an official statement issued by the group’s Secretary of Information and Publicity, Louis Gangmei, the ZUF announced that the new entrants were officially inducted into the Front on April 4, 2025.
Those welcomed into the ZUF include Deputy Kilonser Lungliabuing Newme alias Bonnie, Raju-peyu Kingson Chawang, Raju-peyu Ngamthang Balang, and Khapur Kaire Bariam. The statement noted that the cadres joined along with their arms and were accepted into the Front after completing all required formalities.
The ZUF expressed great delight over what it termed a “right decision” by the former NSCN-IM members, praising their courage and determination to join the Front in its pursuit of securing a legitimate political status for the Zeliangrong people within the Union of India.
“Their testimonies and resolute decisions testify that they have fully realized the logical and pragmatic approach of the ZUF in its engagement with the Government of India,” the statement read. It further added that the cadres’ decision validated the legitimacy of the Zeliangrong people’s demand for a secured position and recognition under the Indian Constitution.
Reaffirming its commitment to the Zeliangrong cause, the ZUF called upon other like-minded individuals and groups to join hands in what it described as a humanitarian and collective struggle for the political rights of the Zeliangrong community.
The induction of the former NSCN-IM members comes amid renewed efforts by the ZUF to consolidate its presence and engage with the central government on issues concerning the Zeliangrong region and its people.
