Imphal, Aug 25:

“It has been the cultural way of Zeliangrong and kindred people to honor traditional heroic and giant personalities. Legendary figures and personalities are often kept in vivid memory in the form of Folktales, Folksongs, Rih Laam (War Dance) and recitations of ritual. Virtues and values of noble personalities are treasured as the rich source of historical inheritance of the people. Deeds of patriots are history read and remembered as evidences of existence and it justifies the political rights of the people”, KD. Gangmei, Information & Publicity Secretary Zeliangrong United Front, said in a statement release in connection with the Haipou Jadonang Martyr’s Day.
The statement said the people of the region; ‘Makaammei’ refers not only to Zeliangrong but a collective kindred people of the Region. Our people have histories of struggle, resistance and suffering to the course of determining the political rights and assertion to self-governance. Haipou Jadonang known as Naga Raj recognized and recorded in the history was one of renowned patriotic figure whose selfless deed are attributed and highly honored by the people. We have such a rich and luminous figure whose valiant deed cannot be overlooked or kept in a dark abysmal corner to be ignored or forgotten. It is our social and moral obligation to uphold, honor and pay high tribute to Haipou Jadonang for his daring example rendered for freedom of the people.
The statement further said that the People of the region marks the day of 29th August every year as the martyr’s day of Haipou Jadonang. The people observe with a sense of gloomy and sorrow for his departure as well as honoring him for his supreme sacrifice made on the scaffold of the British tyranny on 29th August 1931 at Imphal. The cost value of his sacrifice was high above mere speculative assumption. It would have been worth the price of freedom of the people had there been justice delivered at his death. The cause of his death was misconstrued, concealed and manipulated to be kept in silence by the suppressive power of the rulers of the time. Much regret and resent to state that, the Government of Free India failed to reckon and account Haipou Jadonang as one of the freedom fighters of India on equal footing with the rest of recognized freedom fighters of India. Thought-provoking questions may be raised is to why India treated Haipou Jadonang indifferently. What and why did India failed or ignored Haipou Jadonang and his contributions to the cause of freedom alongside the common struggle of Indian freedom fighters? Was it that he fought of his own-will without the knowledge of Indian struggling teams or planned programs or was it that his resistance movement opposed India in any manner? Were all Indian freedom fighters consented to or authorized? Was it or do India think that Haipou Jadonang fought for his own country and India is left out of his planned intention? Howbeit, Jadonang’s movement still stands tall in distinct manner for a cessation from all foreign rules in our homeland.
The Zeliangrong and kindred people as in time past remains strong and determined to uphold and assert their rights to fight and demand for their just and due share of rights from the Government of India. We shall exert harder with all possible means and ways to fight for our rights to be heard and attended to, for ultimate and acceptable solution to our long drawn political issues.
Appealed and informed to all the people of the land to demonstrate a tribute to Haipou Jadonang by upholding our traditional way of honoring the death of a warrior, giant or of heroic personalities. The ZUF declare a state of urgency and mass obligation to observe the Martyrs Day in demonstration of our expressed desire and ardent demand for a secured homeland as envisioned by Haipo uJadonang and Rani Gaidinliu. That all citizens of Zeliangrong & Kindred Tribes are to observes the day with solemn ceremony; flagging of black flags, lighting of candles at dusk about 6:30pm in every household and wherever it is meant to be made. Willing cooperation and compliance out of civic and social responsibility shall be highly appreciated.
