Imphal, Aug 29:
The Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) observed the 93rd Jadonang Martyr’s Day today, at Mount Ararat, Council Headquarters, honoring the legacy of Haipou Jadonang, a revered freedom fighter. The day was marked by paying homage to Jadonang, whose martyrdom continues to inspire millions with the enduring value and cost of freedom.
The ZUF extended heartfelt greetings and expressed profound gratitude to the Zeliangrong community for their collective tribute to Jadonang across Zeliangrong villages, towns, national cities, and throughout their homeland. The observance included solemn acts of paying floral tributes, lighting candles, organizing symposiums, and performing the unique “Jadonang Parade,” all in remembrance of Jadonang’s life, struggle, and ultimate sacrifice.
The ZUF has been vocal in its demand for Haipou Jadonang to be officially recognized as a freedom fighter, deserving of the same honor as other Indian freedom fighters. While his successor, Rani Gaidinliu, has been awarded titles and honors, the Front argues that Jadonang’s sacrifice was no less significant than that of Bhagat Singh, who was hanged on March 23, 1931, or any other freedom fighter in India. Yet, Jadonang has not received the recognition he deserves.
The ZUF urged all Zeliangrong people to continue supporting and cooperating in unity to strengthen their collective voice and efforts toward realizing their long-standing political aspirations. The Front emphasized the importance of coming together with greater determination to achieve their goals and honor the legacy of their forebears.
