The Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF), in coordination with the Zeliangrong Statehood Working Committee (ZSWC), held its sixth round of talks with the Government of India on May 27, 2025, in New Delhi, with both sides engaging in extensive discussions aimed at achieving an amicable resolution to the Zeliangrong political demands.
According to a statement issued by Louis Gangmei, Secretary of Information and Publicity of the ZUF, the meeting involved deliberations on the complexities and sensitivities surrounding the issue. Both ground-level realities and national perspectives were taken into account during the discussion to steer the process towards a meaningful and lasting settlement.
The talks reportedly included a serious examination of the relationships and understandings among inter-tribal communities both within and beyond the Zeliangrong region, with particular reference to the states of Assam, Manipur, and Nagaland. The matter was assessed thoroughly, with both parties recognizing the nuanced dynamics within the traditional jurisdiction of the Zeliangrong people.
It was conveyed that the Zeliangrong political issues and demands were being addressed in a manner that acknowledged the core concerns of the community. The ongoing dialogue is being guided in what was described as a “right direction,” with the objective of arriving at a resolution that is both pragmatic and inclusive, ensuring the aspirations of the Zeliangrong people and their neighboring communities are fulfilled.
The Government of India, the statement added, reaffirmed its commitment to resolving the Zeliangrong issue at the earliest, based on mutual understanding and recognition of legitimate demands.
