Zomi Council alleges exclusion from Home Minister’s dialogue process

IT News
Imphal, March 24:

The Zomi Council has issued a press release expressing serious concern over a statement reportedly made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the Rajya Sabha, which mentioned that a dialogue had commenced between the Kuki-Zo and Meitei communities.
Refuting the claim, the Zomi Council clarified that it was neither invited to the dialogue nor had it sent any delegate. It asserted that the process cited by the Home Minister was conducted without any involvement of the Zomi Council.
The Council condemned its exclusion from what it termed a “crucial exercise,” calling it a direct affront to the political aspirations and fundamental rights of the Zomi people. “Any engagement without the involvement of the Zomi Council is discriminatory and will be rejected,” the statement read.
The apex body further called upon fellow tribal leaders to clarify their position—whether they were genuine partners in the dialogue or whether they intended to proceed without the Zomi Council. The Council emphasized that such clarification would guide its future stance on the political aspirations of the Zomi people during this volatile period.
