Ukhrul, Jan 21:

Shangshak Phunghon, a picturesque village nestled 27 kilometers from Ukhrul District Headquarters and 60 kilometers from Imphal, is hosting the 48th General Conference of Zingsho Katamnao Long (ZKL). Known for its historical significance as a World War II battlefield, Shangshak’s serene landscape provides an inspiring setting for this momentous event.
The conference, inaugurated on Tuesday, is organized under the theme “Youth Towards Peace for Holistic Progress” and is set to run until January 31. The event brings together 37 units and delegates from 74 villages under ZKL’s jurisdiction, emphasizing unity and development in the Zingsho region of the Tangkhul Naga community.
The inaugural function was graced by Qr. A.S. Arthur, former Minister and Ex-MLA of 44 A/C, as Chief Guest, alongside Qr. Victor Keishing, Ex-MLA of 43 Phungyar A/C, as Guest of Honour, and Qr. Rangnamai Rang Peter, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Kamjong, as the Functional President.
Due to his advanced age, Chief Guest A.S. Arthur could not address the gathering directly. Instead, his son, Outer Manipur MP Alfred Khanngam Arthur, delivered a heartfelt speech on his behalf. He called upon the youth to embrace unity, moral responsibility, and productivity, urging them to become pillars of the community and make their elders proud. He emphasized the importance of nurturing God-given talents and avoiding their misuse for the betterment of the region.
The ceremonial flag-hoisting and unveiling of the conference monolith by the Chief Guest marked the official commencement of the event, followed by blessings for the meet.
In his presidential address, DC Rang Peter highlighted the immense potential of the region’s human resources, citing examples such as Enoli Solim Jajo, a national figure, and Ningshen, a mix martial art fighter who recently brought laurels to the Tangkhul community. He encouraged the youth to aim for excellence in diverse fields, both nationally and internationally.
Guest of Honour Eno. Victor Keishing praised the abundant natural resources of the Zingsho region, which borders Myanmar and connects to state capital Imphal. He urged the community to unite for peace and development, paving the way for prosperity in the region.
The conference stands as a testament to the region’s commitment to fostering peace, cultural preservation, and holistic progress, with Shangshak Phunghon at the heart of this inspiring journey.
