Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) issues warning against fraudulent tax demands

IT News
Imphal, Oct 5:

The Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) has issued a public clarification regarding a fraudulent letter circulating on WhatsApp, purportedly from the Kamson Group, dated September 20, 2024, with reference number HT/fin/ZUF/24. The letter, which has been directed to khunbu/khulak/peipou/secretary officials in and around Imphal and other Zeliangrong areas, falsely demands house and ration taxes of Rs 300 per household.
ZUF expressed deep concern over the misleading claims made in the letter, particularly those attributed to an individual named Alfa Gonmei, who is presented as the finance minister of ZUF but remains a hidden identity. The Front emphasized that the Kamson Group relinquished its identity when it surrendered to the NSCN-Unification under N. Kitovi on October 26, 2019, and has since ceased to exist as an independent entity.
“This group has no legitimacy to claim possession or use the name ZUF,” a ZUF spokesperson stated. The organization further cautioned against the activities of various Naga political groups that have been demanding and extorting money from sources such as NH-37 and railways in Zeliangrong areas, warning that these actions undermine public resources, hinder developmental efforts, and threaten the unity of the Naga community.
ZUF urged the general public, along with Zeliangrong village authorities, area councils, and civil society organizations, to refrain from complying with such deceptive tactics. The organization made it clear that any individuals or groups falling victim to these extortionist practices do so at their own risk and responsibility.
The ZUF encourages anyone experiencing demands for money or harassment to report such incidents to the Regional Authorities (Asalu Region, Intangki Region, and Makuilongdi Region) for swift action against the perpetrators.
