World Environment Day observed in Manipur

World Environment Day was observed at RIMS today at the RIMS Mini Ground. The program was organised by RIMS Students Union (RIMSSU). Prof. A. Santa Singh, Director, RIMS, Imphal who was the Chief Guest of the function emphasised that oxygen is the most important element that we gasped for in the past few months. The oxygen that we get from nature is about increasing green cover and ensuring that our air – our every breath is not polluted. Planting trees or restoring the ecosystem will require us to fast restore our relationship with nature and society.
Later on, a mass tree plantation was organised in the campus of the institute. Prof. Brogen Singh Akoijam, Dean Academics, Prof. Sanjib Nepram, Chief Warden, Prof. Th. Meera Devi, Staff Advisor, RIMSSU, Sub-Deans, Wardens and Students were also participated in the program.
The World Environment Day was also observed at the College of Nursing, RIMS, Imphal organised by the College of Nursing at its new campus. Prof. A. Santa Singh, Director, RIMS, Prof. H. Jamuna Devi, Principal, College of Nursing, Prof. H. Ranita Devi, Department of Surgery and Prof. Th. Sachindeba, Deputy Medical Superintendent were the dignitaries present in the program.
The program was attended by Faculty members, officials, Staffs and Students. As part of the program, tree plantation program was also held in its new campus.
Fit India Campaign Committee and Fit India Club, Manipur University, Canchipur also observed the ‘World Environment Day’ today at Manipur University. Hon’ble Chief Minister of Manipur, N. Biren Singh has planted a tree within the campus of Manipur University in his visit to newly going to be inaugurated Covid Care Centres in Manipur University Campus. Prof. S. Sanatombi Singha, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor (i/c) of Manipur University, Prof. W. Chandbabu Singh, Registrar, M.U., Lourembam Rameshwor Meetei, MLA, Keirao Assembly Constituency, Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh, MLA, Konthoujam Assesmby Constituency, Prof. A. Rajmani Singha, F.O. (i/c), Manipur University, Prof. N. Mohilal Meitei, Chairman, MU Covid Monitoring Task Force, Dr. L. Bishwanath Sharma, Chairman, Fit India Club, M.U. and Dr. Laishram Santosh Singh, Convener, Fit India Campaign Committee and Fit India Club, Manipur University have planted trees within the campus of Manipur University Covid Care Centres.
At Bishnupur too, in connection with the World Environment Day, 2021 under the theme ‘Ecosystem Restoration’ Bishnupur Forest Division under the aegis of District Administration today organised a tree plantation program at Mini Secretariat Complex, Bishnupur.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner, Bishnupur stresses on the topic of sustainable development that focusses on rational utilization of resources. He also mentioned the first theme of World Environment Day that is ‘Only One Earth’ holds a very special meaning, as it means the earth is irreplaceable. So, it is our duty to protect it and conserve it for the future generation. Further, he urges the general public to plant more trees and find an emotional connect to it so that the plantation becomes fruitful.
The tree plantation program was attended by DFO Bishnupur Dr. Soibam Rebika Chanu and other district level officers. Simultaneously, the plantation was also held at different locations which are under the jurisdiction of Bishnupur Forest Division.
