On the occasion of World Anthropology Day, the Auditorium of Manipur University buzzed with intellectual fervor as the three-day World Anthropology Post Congress 2023 International Seminar commenced. With a thematic focus on “Anthropology in Practice: Health, Culture, and Security,” the event promises a rich tapestry of discussions and deliberations.
The inaugural ceremony witnessed a distinguished gathering of luminaries, including Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh, Minister of the Department of Information, Publicity, and Relations, and Health and Family Welfare, Government of Manipur; Prof. N. Rajmuhon Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Dhanamanjuri University; Prof. K. Saratchandra, President of the Anthropological Society of Manipur; and Prof. Vijoy S. Sahay, Former Emeritus Professor and Head of the Department of Anthropology, Allahabad University. Leading the proceedings was Prof. S. Jibonkumar Singh, Chairman of the Organizing Committee and Head of the Department of Anthropology, Manipur University.
In his keynote address, Prof. Vijoy Shankar Sahay shed light on the comprehensive program of the seminar, comprising 13 deliberations by invited speakers and over 120 paper presentations covering various facets of the theme. He lauded the presence of Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh as the Chief Guest, acknowledging his progressive stance and significant contributions to healthcare administration in Manipur.
Prof. Sahay also extended a warm welcome to Prof. N. Rajmuhon Singh, highlighting his dedication to scientific research and popularizing scientific thinking. Prof. K. Saratchandra was recognized for his multifaceted engagement in anthropology, particularly his endeavors in preserving Manipuri heritage.
Furthermore, Prof. Sahay expressed gratitude to Prof. S. Jibonkumar Singh, underscoring his active involvement in fostering anthropological networks and his commendable work in child welfare.
The seminar boasts a distinguished lineup of invited speakers, including renowned figures such as Prof. K N Saraswathy, Prof. Ashish Joshi, Prof. Subho Roy, and Dr. Palin Khundongbam, among others. Their contributions, spanning various disciplines, are expected to enrich the discourse on human welfare.
Acknowledging the collaborative efforts, Prof. Sahay highlighted that the seminar is a joint initiative of the Departments of Anthropology at Manipur University and D M University, along with 28 affiliated colleges.
