Workshop on Barrier free campaign inaugurated

15 days long workshop on Barrier free campaign with the theme of ‘let us smile together, let us work together’ was inaugurated today at Manipur Press Club, Imphal being organised by Handicapped Development Foundation (HDF), Manipur.Dr S. Jasobanta Singh, Secretary General, HDF said in his keynote address that a barrier free environment is one which allows people to move around safely and independently without restriction. Not only the handicapped people but every individual face barrier and the campaign is for everyone, he said. Jasobanta further said the theme of the campaign is ‘let us smile together, let us work together’ with the objective of creating an environment that is accessible by everyone in the society, including people with disability. He appealed to all local cable networks to add a sign language interpreter in their channel may be in a week or a month.Attending the function as a resource person, Mrs. Joyrani, spoke on the topic ‘Accessibility in the educational institution.’ She said accessibility is required for everyone including every child to get right to education and to include differently able people to the society.
