In a landmark demographic shift, Manipur’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Pradeep Kumar Jha, announced on Monday that the number of women voters in the state has overtaken that of men.
As per the final electoral rolls, the total number of voters in Manipur stands at 20,54,387, with women forming a majority of 10,61,979, compared to 9,92,140 men. Additionally, there are 268 voters categorized under the third gender.
The recent revision of the electoral rolls brought in 29,468 new voters, including 13,348 men, 16,118 women, and two third-gender voters. Meanwhile, 9,741 names were removed from the rolls during this period.
Among service electors—comprising armed forces and government personnel—there are 21,148 voters, with men accounting for 20,131 and women 1,017, offering further insights into the state’s gender dynamics.
A district-wise analysis shows Imphal West leading with the highest number of registered voters at 3,84,176, followed by Imphal East with 3,26,668, and Thoubal with 2,06,367 voters. At the other end, Jiribam and Kamjong have the lowest voter counts, at 31,513 and 35,813, respectively.
Among the hill districts, Churachandpur tops the list with 1,85,570 electors, while Senapati follows with 1,46,666 voters.
