Imphal, Aug 4:

The All Manipur Women’s Social Reformation and Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj), All Manipur Tammi Chingmi Apunba Nupi Lup (Tammi Chingmi), and Ereipak Enaat Chanura Loinasinlon (EECHAL) held a joint press conference today at the Nupi Samaj head office, condemning recent actions by the Manipur police.
During the press meet, EECHAL President Ibemcha expressed strong condemnation of the police’s actions, stating that they reportedly fired several rounds of tear gas shells and mock bombs at displaced people inside a college campus. She revealed that police personnel not only fired live rounds and tear gas but also brutally assaulted a media person covering the incident. As a result, many internally displaced persons (IDPs) and a senior journalist from Impact TV sustained injuries due to police action.
The incident occurred on August 1, when IDPs from Ideal College Akampat attempted to take out a rally demanding resettlement and rehabilitation during the assembly session. President Ibemcha further criticized the Indian and Manipur governments, asserting that the displaced individuals were dissatisfied with their current situation. She appealed for such incidents not to be repeated in the future and warned that if they do recur, Nupi Samaj, Tammi Chingmi, and EECHAL would not tolerate it.
