WMC Tripura honours eminent personalities and outstanding students in felicitation ceremony

Agartala, Aug 18:

The World Meetei Council (WMC), Tripura State Unit, organized a felicitation function today at the Agartala Press Club. The event honoured six eminent personalities from Tripura who have achieved significant recognition in their respective fields, making them sources of pride for both the society and the state.
The individuals felicitated included eminent poet Sorokkhaibam Gambhini, recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2023; craftswoman Soubam Nirmala, who received the National Handloom Award in 2023; renowned bodybuilder Dr. Vishal Sinha, who was crowned Mr. Universe by the IFFB in 2023; prominent chess player Umashankar Dutta, winner of the Tripura State Rapid Tournament in 2023; artist and Nrityaguru RK Bhramarjit Singha, known as Lali Sana; and gymnast Mayengbam Ajay Singha, who recently earned a PhD in Physical Education in 2024.
In addition to these honorees, 23 Manipuri students who excelled in their secondary and higher secondary examinations were also recognized. Among the Madhyamik meritorious students were Aneek Dutta (CBSE, 97.4%, Mathematics 100%), Nilam Singha (CBSE, 94.6%, Mathematics 100%), Aryan Singh (TBSE, 94.6%), Nayanita Singha (TBSE, 92.6%), and Sanghamitra Singha (CBSE, 91.4%). The higher secondary meritorious students included Anushree Devi (CBSE, Arts, 96.4%, Bengali 100%), Priya Singha (TBSE, Arts, 77%), Hrishikesh Singha (CBSE, Arts, 73.8%), Barnali Singha (TBSE, Science, 72%), and Nikita Sharma (CBSE, Science, 70.8%).
The program was inaugurated by Dr. KN Chand, Vice Chairman of the World Meetei Council, and graced by Prof. Ganga Prasad Prasain, Vice-Chancellor of Tripura University, as the Chief Guest. Mutum Bishwanath Singha, Senior Social Sector Leader, attended as the Guest of Honour. The ceremony was presided over by H. Bankim Singha, a prominent dancer and President of the WMC, Tripura State Unit.
The Tripura State Unit of the World Meetei Council was officially launched on 29th December 2023, with the aim of empowering the Meetei community in Tripura, promoting unity, strengthening Meetei identity, and addressing socio-economic challenges.
