A special meeting of the World Meitei Council (WMC), Maharashtra Unit, held at its office
at Panvel, New Mumbai on Nov 28 had showed solidarity support towards the demand of Schedule Tribe status of Meetei community of Manipur in the list of Schedule Tribes of the Indian Constitution.
Er. S. Manarjit Singh, President WMC Maharashtra Unit presided over the meeting with its advisors Dr. H. Narendra Singh and Mr. Devanand Sharma as presidium members. All the attendees reaffirmed to support the ongoing movement on ST demand of meetei community with the same spirit and vigour till the demand is met.
The general body also unanimously resolved to send a memorandum to the Chief Minister, Govt of Manipur for his kind attention and necessary speedy action to kindly send the Ethnographic and Socio-economic Report of the meetei community along with necessary recommendation to the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Govt of India.
As per the resolution taken by the general body, the WMC Maharashtra Unit has submitted one memorandum to the Chief Minister, Govt of Manipur for necessary action in the interest of meetei community.
