Imphal, Sept 8:

Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President and MLA K. Meghachandra has termed meeting held by the Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and other ruling party leaders with the governor over the issues of unified command as a political drama.
He has expressed grave concern over the escalating violence in Manipur, highlighting the use of sophisticated weaponry, including RPGs, drones, and heavy gunfire.
K Meghachandra pointed out that the ongoing attacks, particularly in Jiribam district, have resulted in numerous deaths. The MPCC has extended condolences to the victims’ families.
K. Meghachandra criticized the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that while the PM has spoken about international conflicts like the Russia-Ukraine war and the Israel-Palestine conflict, he has ignored the crisis unfolding in Manipur. “The Prime Minister remains silent when his own citizens are facing a tragedy,” Meghachandra remarked, questioning the government’s lack of response.
He further criticized the role of the state government, stating that the central government has effectively taken control of its functions. He noted that ministers and MLAs from the ruling party have met with the government, but no significant action has been taken.
Addressing the recent remarks by Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh about resigning if the unified command is not handed over to him, Meghachandra called it “political drama,” pointing out that Singh was removed from leading the unified command over 15 months ago. “Why didn’t he speak out earlier?” K Meghachandra questioned, suggesting that this delay reveals the Chief Minister’s weakness in addressing the ongoing conflict.
