WAD condemns sexual assault on minor girls; demands speedy justice

Imphal, Oct 31: While condemning the alleged sexual assault of four minor girls in the past few days in different part of the state, Women Action for Development (WAD) has demanded speedy justice to the victims.

A minor girl is a student of Class II studying at Merciful English School, Hangeul Thoubal District was allegedly assaulted sexually by Mr. Arambam Robindro Alias Ibungo (38) on the night of October 26 at 8.00 pm. Mr. Arambam Robindro is a mathematics teacher where the victim girl is studying.

On the other hand three (3) minor girls who stayed in a rented house together at Churachanpur District were also allegedly assaulted sexually in between 7 to 19 Oct, 2014.   It is to be reported that a minor identified as Mr. Siamthianmuan (15 years) of Tangnuan Village who is a neighbor of the rented house where the three minor girls are staying has committed alleged sexual assault to these three girls one after another in different days.

In a press stamen WAD said that it has documented at least 33 sexual assault cases including 22 cases in which the victims are minor since the beginning of this year till to October 2014 in Manipur. WAD has serious concerned in the sudden increasing of such cases.

The Wad statement further added that the accused in most of the cases of such form of crimes are yet to be brought to justice despite the fact that existing laws prescribed time bound justice. In most of the cases people resorted mob justice in the absence of speedily justice to the victims except in few cases including the case of sexual assault inflicted on a minor girl of Merciful English School, Hangeul Thoubal District, it added. “WAD in any case does not encourage such forms of mob justice and at the same time urged the authority concerned to ensure speedy justice within a time bound as prescribed by the law of the country in order to avoid any untoward incident including mob justice”, the statement added.
