WAD condemn assault of 65 years old vendor lady by a Police officer

Women Action for Development (WAD) expressed strong condemnation of the physical assault and inhuman act inflicted on 65 years old woman Ningthoujam Mangolnganbi Devi who is a resident of Tera Khuraijam Leirak. Mangolnganbi is seeking his fortune and livelihood by running a fish vendor at the roadside of Tera Lukram Leirak Machin.
A statement of WAD said that – On September 4, 2022, at about 8.30 P.M one drunken man identified as Haobijam Babuchouba Singh of Tera Sapam Leirak came to the place where Mangolnganssbi was selling fish at her vendor. Babuchouba Singh is serving as a sub Inspector of Telecom (Wireless) Department Government of Manipur.
Babuchouba Singh started abusing Mangolnganbi and then physically assaulted her. The other vendors tried to stop the assault but in vain. The assault must have lasted about 15 minutes. Mangolnganbi sustained severe injuries due to the physical assault inflicted on her. She was admitted to Hospital.     
“It is very unfortunate that a man who is serving for the state Home Department has committed such kind of physical assault to an aged woman who is also a widow, earning for livelihood for her family by kicking, in her shoulder which leads to severe injuries on her neck, chest and break the bone which leads her to hospitalized wad question to the government how could a person who is for the protection of the people do such a horrific act to the senior citizen who comes for her livelihood? Even the senior citizens are not spared then what will be the young women and girls’ future? This is the need of the hour that every citizen comes together and fight against such horrific and inhuman act committed by the police which is protected its citizens from any incidents occur in the state”, WAD statement added.
A team of WAD rushed to the spot, when enquired the family member of the victim lady said that the doctor advice Mangolnganbi to take rest and stop working for 3 months which is very unfortunate for the family where the victim is the bread earner of the family. 
WAD also urges the Governor of Manipur and the Chief Minister of Manipur to direct the police to arrest the accused immediately.           
In this connection, WAD filed a complaint with Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) seeking for directing the Police to register an FIR and ensure a prompt, thorough, and impartial investigation. The MHRC acknowledged the receipt of the complaint by providing Case Diary No. 24/IN/2022.
