Imphal, March 10:
After nearly a decade of neglect, the villagers of Mandeu have successfully completed the construction of Mandeu Primary School, which was left unfinished by the contractor responsible for the project.
The school building, sanctioned in 2013-14 under the Autonomous District Council, was abandoned despite repeated appeals to the concerned authorities. With no proper infrastructure for students to attend classes, the villagers, along with the local student union and village authority, decided to take matters into their own hands.
A villager stated that in 2022, with financial assistance from local MLA Awangbou Newmai, the community began a voluntary social work initiative to build the classroom. Although the initial funding was inadequate to complete the project, the villagers remained committed, dedicating one day each month to continue the construction.
Their hard work and perseverance have finally paid off, as the school building is now complete. A photo from the site shows villagers, including parents of school-going children, working together to build the classroom—demonstrating the power of community effort and determination.
