Imphal, Feb 4:
Recently, social media has been abuzz with discussions surrounding the procurement of drones equipped with thermal cameras. Social media influencers, activists, and individuals alike have spearheaded donation drives, aiming to secure these essential tools for village volunteers dedicated to safeguarding their local communities. However, amidst the widespread publicity, a disconcerting revelation has come to light, shedding a new perspective on the challenges faced by those on the frontlines.
A reliable source within the village protection volunteers has shared insights with Imphal Times, bringing attention to issues arising from the heightened media attention. The source disclosed that “some of the village protection volunteers have been employing drones with thermal cameras as a crucial component of their defense strategy since June of last year. This technology has played a pivotal role in monitoring and fortifying their villages against raids by the armed Kuki. However, these volunteers are currently facing issues with their drones.”
The source further added an observation, suggesting a potential link between the recent surge in social media hype regarding monetary contributions for thermal drones and the emerging challenges faced by the village protection volunteers. He adds, “It could be that the heightened attention on social media has inadvertently alerted groups like the Kuki-Zo. In response, they appear to have acquired jammers, posing a countermeasure to the effective use of drones by the volunteers.”
