Imphal, April 27:

Heartbreak engulfed the community as news emerged this morning of the tragic fate of Laishangthem Bomcha, affectionately known as Prem (32), a valiant defender from Sinam Mamang Leikai in Imphal East. Prem, who had gone missing since yesterday evening, was discovered lifeless at the bottom of a gorge in Meikham Mark Hill, under the jurisdiction of Sagolmang Police Station.
The somber revelation comes in the wake of a courageous stand against the looming threat posed by armed Kuki militants. Reports recount a harrowing ordeal when heavily armed militants descended upon Sinam village, unleashing terror with a barrage of gunfire around 3 p.m. Prompted by the distressing news, Prem, along with fellow village defenders, hastily rallied to confront the assailants.
A fierce exchange of gunfire ensued, with the village defenders valiantly holding their ground until 5 p.m. in a bid to safeguard their community. However, in the aftermath of the skirmish, Prem was nowhere to be found, plunging loved ones and neighbours into anguish and uncertainty.
Tragically, the search concluded in the most devastating manner, with Prem’s lifeless body discovered at the break of dawn today. His untimely demise leaves behind a grieving wife and two young children, shattered by the loss of their beloved protector.
The dead body of Prem was deposited at JNIMS morgue by a team of Sagolmang Police for post mortem.
