Members of the United Peoples’ Front, Manipur (UPF) paid floral tributes today at Leng Ondabi Pat (Lake) in Cachar district of Assam in honour of Maharaj Gambhir Singh and Maharaj Nara Singh. The tribute was offered as part of a memorial programme marking seven years since the devastation, organised under the theme “Let Us Not Repeat the Devastation.”
Addressing the gathering, UPF, Manipur president Nongthombam Rupachandra said that after offering homage at the resting place of the two kings at Leng Ondabi Pat, the organisation would continue its efforts to unite the people of Manipur, who are currently living in fragmented and divided conditions. He said the programme was organised with the objective of ensuring that Manipur does not experience such devastation again.
He stated that Leng Ondabi Pat holds significant historical importance, as Maharaj Gambhir Singh and Maharaj Nara Singh had stayed in the area and drawn water from the lake during their time. Prayers were offered at the site seeking wisdom and guidance for the people.
Rupachandra further said that just as the forefathers had united to protect Manipur in the past, the present generation must also come together with a sense of responsibility and conscience to overcome the challenges confronting the State.
The programme also observed the pledge under the slogan “We shall not allow ourselves to be marginalised again.”
