Military Affairs Committee (MAC) of the proscribed United National Liberation Front greets the people of the region on occasion of the 29th foundation day of its armed wing Manipur Peoples’ Army (MPA) today. The committee also extended its gratitude to the people of the region who supported the MPA besides paying homage to those fighters who lost their lives in the hands of Indian security forces.

Expressing gratitude to all the communities in the State, the revolutionary outfit appealed to the people to collectively fight against the Indian dominion. The statement issued today however said that the revolutionary spirit has been slowing down since last few years as there were some loopholes in the group’s propaganda and strategies.

The statement signed by Kh. Pambei, Chairman, MAC, UNLF further said that factional disputes amongst revolutionary groups and surrendering to Indian authority was another major reason in compounding the issue.

The outfit further blamed Indian security forces for nurturing fake armed revolutionary groups which malign the image of real ones in the eyes of general public.

The statement also condemned the increasing issues of crime against Women in the society. The outfit said although the role of Manipuri women are well known in the society, the so called patriarchal structure still fails to protect the women from such parasites even after knowing that men could not substitute women’s role in the society. Alleging the deliberate ploy of the Indian government for creating mistrust and suspicion amongst the communities in the region as well as the projection of the imaginary rift between the different groups which creates an atmosphere of uncertainty in the minds of the public, the release stated that the present social tension in the state can and should be resolved through discussions amongst the communities inhabiting Manipur only. The framework agreement signed between the Indian government and the NSCN-IM should be implemented only in Nagaland and any attempt to impose it in Manipur will be dealt with severely with the cooperation of the public- the release reiterated. The statement ascribes the reason for the rising inequality between the hard working farmers whose social and financial development has been on the decline as against the gradual rise of power, wealth and status of the cronies who are exploiting the helpless section of the society to the lack of understanding and cooperation amongst the various groups fighting for the sovereignty of the state, adding that the outfit has resolved to address loopholes in its functioning in order to win back the trust and support of the people while stressing on the active role CorCom- the committee formed to advance the cause of the freedom struggle of Manipur will be playing in this regard.
