Union MHA shows serious concern to massive cultivation of Poppy plants in Manipur

Union Ministry of Home Affairs has showed serious concern to the massive Poppy cultivation in the five districts of Manipur and directed the state government to take up immediate steps to destroy all poppy plantations here in the state.
A highly placed source revealed that the Department of Internal Security of Union Ministry of Home Affairs is considering the state of Manipur as the root of narcotic substances across the country. In a letter to the Chief secretary, Government of Manipur, the MHA said that most of the drug available across the country are being disseminated from the state and that drug gang across the country is having its source here in the state.
Earlier Narcotics Control Bureau, Kolkata had communicated the state government authority after the Bureau had notice massive plantation of poppy in the five district of Manipur viz, Imphal East, Chandel, Ukhrul, Senapati and Churandpur among others.
The NCB Kolkatta also stated that seizure of narcotic substances by the NCB and other drug law enforcement agencies during the last few years had revealed that Morphine is being trafficked from Manipur to various part of India which clearly indicated inter-stated networking of drug traffickers, having source in Manipur.
In its directives to the state government the MHA has stated that unless the menace of illicit cultivation of Opium Poppy is eliminated, it will not be possible to control the problem of Opium trafficking in the region.
The MHA also directed the state government to destroy all plantations of poppy plants in the state to start immediately and complete it by April next year. It also granted permission to even utilize central paramilitary force including the BSF, AR and CRPF besides NCB and other drug law enforcing agencies.
