Imphal, Dec 17:

An unexploded mortar bomb was discovered near Koirengei, about a kilometre away from Luwangshangbam, close to the private residence of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, on Tuesday morning, triggering panic in the area.
Local residents reported that a rocket-propelled bomb was fired the previous night but failed to detonate. Early Tuesday, the 51 mm unexploded mortar bomb was found, prompting swift action from authorities. Security measures have been intensified in the vicinity, and an investigation has been launched to ascertain the source of the live bomb and the motive behind its placement so close to the Chief Minister’s residence.
In a separate incident, a hand grenade was discovered on Sunday near the residence of a Public Works Department (PWD) special contractor in Imphal East. The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of Heingang police station, raising further concerns over security in the region.
Meanwhile, the Manipur Police, in a press statement issued late Saturday, announced the arrest of six cadres belonging to the proscribed underground outfit PREPAK (People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak). The statement also confirmed the killing of one member of the outfit during an operation in Salungpham, Thoubal district, under the jurisdiction of Heirok police station.
