Under trial prisoner hung to death

Imphal, June 1: An under-trial prisoner sent to jail for murder case, hanged himself to death today morning inside his cell.
The deceased prisoner has been identified as Arambam Naobi (27) s/o (L) Arambam Ibomcha of Takhel Makha Leikai. His lifeless body was found hanging from a window bar inside his cell at sector 5 of Sajiwa Jail with a towel today around 4 in the morning by the duty officer.
Arambam Naobi was sent to jail on July 4 of 2015 for killing one person identified as Khundrakpam Sanathoi and injuring two others.
According to a family member, Arambam Naobi was mentally retarded and was undergoing treatment with a number of psychiatrists of the state.
Around 9:30 am, OC of Lamlai Police Station informed family members that Arambam Naobi had hung himself to death inside his jail chamber.
After being examined by a forensic team, the body of Arambam Naobi was taken to JNIMS morgue for post mortem conducted under the witness of duty magistrate with video coverage.
