UNC’s agitation: 7 including 3 women injured in police action at Senapati

Imphal, Jan 3: At least 7 protestors including 3 women were injured in police action at Senapati district head quarter in front of Mini Secretariat at around 11 am today.
The protestors were storming to the Mini Secretariat Senapati district to shut down the office as a part of the agitation called by United Naga Council. The UNC had called picketing of government offices in all the Naga Inhabited area from Midnight of December 31 in protest against the creation of new districts in the state by Government of Manipur.
Following the announcement for picketing of offices, district administration of Senapati and Ukhrul as well as Kangpokpi had issued an order under CrPC 144 to prohibit gathering of people at the area.
Early today morning large number people gathered at Senapati district under the aegis of the UNC and later thronged to the Mini Secretariat office. The agitators were prevented from entering the mini secretariat office by a strong team of central police. As the situation goes out of hand, the police team fire several round of tear gas shells and mock bomb. In the police action 7 persons including 3 women sustained injury after being hurt by the tear gas shell. All were rushed to district hospital.
Meanwhile, UNC has intensified its agitation called for picketing of government offices in Naga inhabited area.
