ILPS agitation resumed; effigies of CM, HM burnt

Imphal, Jan 3: Students’ Wing of the Joint Committee of Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) today resumes agitation demanding introduction of ILPS in the state. Socialists Students’ Union Manipur also joined the agitations for introduction of ILPS at Moirang area in Bishnupur district.
Women’s Wing of JCILPS also gheroa at the residence of MLA RK Anand of Naoriya Pakhang Lakpa Assembly Constituency, MLA Laishom Ibomcha of Keishamthong Assembly Constituency and MLA Th. Lokeshwar, also the Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly at his Keishampat residence.
At CC Higher Secondary School large number of students today gathered in front of the school and shouted slogans demanding implementation of ILPS in the state. Banners demanding immediate state assembly session to pass Bills for introduction of ILPS were displayed. Later at around 12.45 pm the students burn the effigies of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh and Home Minister Gaikhangam.
At GP Women’s College too large number students under the aegis of the JCILPS staged protest and burnt effigy of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh. The students condemn the sidelining of the ILPS issue. It warned serious consequences to the state government if it fails to introduce the ILPS Bill before the commencement of the Election Code of Conduct.
At Kwakeithel too large number of JCILPS volunteers staged protest demanding ILPS in the state at around 2.30 pm. Effigy of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi was burnt during the protest.
