UNC lifts 10 days economic blockade

United Naga Council (UNC) has lifted the 10 days economic Blockade as well as the ban on the construction of National and International Project from 4 pm today evening. Newmai News Network reports said that the decision to lift the economic blockade as well as the ban on construction of National and International project was taken during a meeting held today.
UNC president Gaidon Kamei while speaking to Newmai News Network stated that the decision to lift the blockade came after the government of India assured them to look into the “prevailing situation”.
The UNC called the 10 days economic blockade that began on Monday midnight to protest against three bills — Protection of Manipur People Bill, Manipur Land Revenue and Land Reforms (Seventh Amendment) Bill and Manipur Shops and Establishments (Second Amendment) Bill — which were passed by the Assembly on August 31.
The UNC was also protesting a House resolution taken on the same day urging the Centre to amend Article 3 of the Constitution so that taking prior consent of the affected states becomes mandatory while forming a new state.
Indian Interlocutor to the NSCN-IM –GOI peace talk, RN Ravi who had visited the state while meeting the senior citizens on Tuesday here in Imphal had stated that he had appealed the UNC to lift the economic blockade.
