Headmaster murder: Agitators ransack Irilbung police station, 8 agitators injured

Tension continues to grip Keirao Makting as a large number of people from Keirao Makting on Thursday stormed the Irilbung police station demanding arrest of the accused involved in the killing of headmaster Md Hasmad. Under the aegis of JAC against the brutal killing of Md Hasmad alias Babu, a public meeting was held at the Keirao Makting Youth Club ground. Following the meeting, a large number of Keirao Makting locals, mainly youths stormed the Irilbung police station this morning at about 9 am.
The agitators vandalized the police sentry post, sign board erected at the gate of the police station compelling the cops to fire tear gas shells. At least, 8 agitators sustained injury in police action to control the mob. It took many hours for police to control the mob. Addl forces of Imphal east police too rushed to the spot to control the mob.
The infuriated agitators also blocked Imphal-Yairipok road at the Irilbung Keithel thereby causing  high inconveniences to the passersby, school going students. Irilbung Keithel was completely paralysed on the day.
Later on, representatives of the JAC and OC of the Police station held talk. Md Hasmad (55) of Keirao Makting Awang Leikai, headmaster of Keirao Makting UJB School was lynched to death at KoMngba akha Nandeibam Leikai, Imphal East district under Irilbung police station in the wee hours of November 2 for allegedly stealing a calf.
JAC against the Brutal Killing of Md Hasmad Ali alias Babu convenor Md Rajauddin while maintaining that Hasmad Ali was a soft-spoken and upright teacher, dismissed the allegation that he was attempting to steal a calf. He said that JAC has been demanding the government to arrest all those involved in the killing directly and indirectly and to award befitting punishment according to law of the land.
However, police is yet to arrest the culprits behind the murder compelling the people to storm the police station. JAC also demanded that adequate compensation and a suitable Government job should be given to the family of the deceased. Until and unless all these demands are translated into action, the corpse would not be claimed, he said. It may be recalled that locals ablset aze house of one suspect Md Matlif who is a neighbour of Hasmat on Nov 2.
