UNC condemns killing of four Naga Army, ANSAM calls for peace

The United Naga Council has strongly condemned the killing of four Naga Army personnel at Hongbei village in Ukhrul district on March 28, terming the incident as a “heinous act of fratricidal violence.”
According to a press release issued by the council, the incident has deeply saddened the Naga community and comes at a time when unity is most needed. It described the killings as a grim reminder of the need to shun violence among brethren and maintain cohesion within the community.
The council called upon the Government of the People’s Republic of Nagaland to clarify the circumstances leading to the incident and take immediate action against those responsible. It also urged the authorities concerned to initiate a thorough investigation into the matter and ensure that those involved are dealt with firmly.
Expressing solidarity with the bereaved families, the UNC conveyed its condolences and prayed for strength and healing for those affected.
Appealing for calm, the council urged all sections of society to exercise restraint, uphold peace and harmony, and work towards reconciliation during the prevailing tensions.
The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has appealed for peace following the killing of four cadres on 28 March 2026 at Ukhrul district.
In a statement ANSAM described the incident as a “heinous act of consanguineous bloodletting”, condemning the fratricidal violence and urging the Naga community to reject retaliation and uphold unity. The students’ body called for a transparent and thorough investigation, stressing that justice must be delivered impartially and swiftly.
ANSAM extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved families, urging the community to rise above grief and anger. “Strength is measured not by vengeance but by our ability to uphold peace even in provocation,” the statement added.
The student body also warned that internal discord among Naga brethren could only weaken the community, allowing outsiders to benefit from divisions.
It may be mentioned that tension escalated after an enraged mob set fire to the Wung Tangkhul Region office of the NSCN-IM, reportedly in retaliation for the killing of four members of the NSCN Eastern Flank in Kamjong district on Saturday.
