IT News
Imphal, Mar 18:

In a recent development, the United Naga Council (UNC) has declared its support for the Naga Peoples’ Front (NPF) while urging the Naga community in Manipur to come together ahead of the forthcoming MP election. Stressing the significant importance of unity, the UNC highlighted the prolonged Indo-Naga issue, spanning over six decades, and the ongoing progress in negotiations, signaling a potential settlement.
The UNC emphasized the necessity of having a Naga representative in Parliament to advocate for the rights and aspirations of the Naga people. In a joint meeting of intending candidates for the MP election, convened under the auspices of the UNC, candidates pledged to prioritize the election of a Naga MP from the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency. They committed to respecting and honoring the consensus candidate chosen by the Naga people to ensure meaningful representation in Parliament.
The statement also acknowledged the pivotal role played by the Naga Peoples’ Front (NPF) in advocating for the Naga community and supporting the Indo-Naga Peace process. The strong support garnered by the NPF in the 2019 Lok Sabha Election reflects the fervent desire of the Naga community to have a dedicated representative in Parliament.
Following extensive consultations with leaders, the Naga community has decided to rally behind the candidate endorsed by the NPF, prioritizing the collective interests of the community over individual affiliations. The UNC urges all Naga tribes, councils, civil society organizations, and regional bodies to unite in support of the chosen candidate, demonstrating the unity and determination of the Naga community to ensure effective representation and progress for their people.
