Churachandpur based armed group, the United Kuki National Army (UKNA) has raised serious allegations of irregularities in the distribution of rice under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) and the One Nation One Ration Card system in Churachandpur district.
In a press release issued by its Department of Information, the UKNA stated that credible reports and independent findings point to large-scale discrepancies in the supply of essential food grains. It alleged that internally displaced persons (IDPs) and common citizens have been systematically exploited by certain officials along with transport contractors involved in the distribution process.
According to the statement, the alleged misconduct has further aggravated the hardships faced by the affected population amid the ongoing crisis. The outfit condemned what it described as misuse of public resources intended for vulnerable sections of society.
The UKNA demanded a fair and transparent inquiry into the matter, calling for strict action against those found responsible, including officials of the Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution department and transport contractors allegedly involved.
It further urged those implicated to issue an unconditional public apology to the people of Churachandpur and Pherzawl districts at the earliest, warning of unspecified action in case of non-compliance. The group also cautioned that contractors continuing such practices may face restrictions from operating in the two districts.
Additionally, the UKNA appealed to civil society organisations and community leaders not to extend support to individuals involved in the alleged irregularities, stating that any such assistance would invite action.
