Ukhrul District MNREGA Welfare Association warns of mass agitation

The Ukhrul District MNREGA Welfare Association has strongly resented the Tilly taly policy of the authority concerned with dispersing material component (MC) of the job card holders for the last 2 years and warned of mass agitation.
In a press conference held at Ikror Restaurant some days back, Qr S.Leishisan convenor of Ukhrul district MNREGA Welfare Association said that since 2019, 2020-21, and 2021-22 the Material component money has not been given to the beneficiaries of Ukhrul MNREGA so we repeatedly apprised the issues to the then Ukhrul DC Khrisna Kumar where he assured us the Payment soon.
“However, before he translated his promise into reality he was transferred. So again we met the present Ukhrul DC Kangoo Zuringla and informed her in detail so with her initiative the MC for 2020- 2021-22 it was agreed to give out in three installments. The first installment of rupees 6 crores has been given/ credited but the remaining two installments amounting to 15 crores for Ukhrul MNREGA beneficiaries are yet to disperse till date”, the convenor said.
At present Ukhrul has over 34,459 MNREGA job card holders and failing to disburse the wages for the last 2-3 years has caused immense hardship to beneficiaries.
He added that the matter does not end there as failure to disperse 2020-21-22 MC money has made work pending as it is difficult to continue or create work for 2022-23. Moreover, the lack of banking facilities network failure in banks, and delayed Electronic Fund Management system have made many villagers lose time, money, and energy standing all day long in the queue.
The Association appealed to the government authority to redress their grievances on or before the first week of December or else they will be left with no other alternative but to take democratic mass agitation, the MNREGA welfare association warned.
