Imphal, Dec 23: Condemning the unreasonable charge put upon United Committee Manipur (UCM) by Forum for Understanding Naga-India Conflict and Human Rights (FUNICH) with the arising communal situation in the Manipur State appeal the forum not to repeat such kind of charge to any civil organistion in the future.
Speaking to the media persons at the office of UCM, Elangbam Johnson, President of UCM said that convenor of FUNICH, Lakpachui Siro statement to the media persons by calling press meet/conference at New Delhi on the current issues of Manipur and the unfortunate incident of December 20, 2016 at Khurai area where 22 vehicles were burnt down against the non-call off of on-going economic blockade call by UNC was mainly organised by UCM is totally unreasonable and unacceptable.
FUNICH convenor has not understood the current situation of Manipur since the indefinite economic was imposed by UNC, he added.
Johnson also said that UCM and its member immediately rush at Khurai area after receiving information of vehicles being burnt down by the locals while trying to transport through Imphal-Ukhrul road. After meeting with the local club members and meira paibis and different CSOs’ of the State, UCM made the whole necessary arrangement for the tribal brothers and sisters to reach their home safe and sound and even succeeded.
Further questioning the statement of UNC and FUNICH describing the outcry of various CSOs and UCM as crocodile tears, Johnson further raise the issue of UNC failing to come out for table talk with the state government. Without the concern of State Government, the demands of UNC and FUNICH could not be solve including they give up the idea of communal minded. UNC must leave the idea of looking each community in a different way and it will be wrong the non-call off of economic blockade despite being appeal by various CSOs’, public including Church members during the public convention organised by UCM, Johnson added.
President of UCM appeal FUNICH and its related CSO not to repeat such kind of unreasonable charge on UCM or any Civil Societies who have been contributing in the field of safeguarding the territorial integrity of a state instead they should extend their hands to support.
