Extending support to the ongoing indefinite bandh along the National Highway 102 (Imphal-Moreh road) the United Committee Manipur (UCM) has called a 12-hour-long statewide general strike from Wednesday 5AM to 5PM.
Various civil society organizations of Chandel district had imposed indefinite bandh in the district against denying free movement to the villagers allegedly by 24 Assam Rifles.
Speaking to reporters, Y Nabachandra, President of UCM said that Imphal-Moreh road is one of the key lifelines of the people of Manipur. However, people are suffering from undue atrocities meted out by Assam Rifles posted along the national highway.
He also said that UCM will support all the steps taken by CSOs based in the Chandel district and a future course of action will be announced soon in consultation with the Chandel district CSOs.
It may be recalled that a total number of 17 CSOs formed a JAC with Doumang Haokip and SK Angshel Lamkang as the Convenor and Co- Convenor during a joint meeting held on Monday. The JAC also jointly affirmed to intensify their agitation of indefinite bandh.
During the meeting the JAC demanded to shift the 24AR post including the CO of the current post from Tengnoupal.
He also informed that the general strike will be relaxed for essential services including religious activities, media and medical etc.
