The Department of Plant Pathology, South Asian Institute of Rural and Agricultural Management (SAIRAM), Langjing Achouba, Imphal, in collaboration with T.S. Paul Manipur Women’s College, inaugurated a two-day workshop on “Exploring Sustainable Plant Health Management: Non-Chemical Strategies for Disease and Pest Control” today at T.S. Paul Manipur Women’s College, Imphal.
The inaugural session was graced by Dr. H.S. Shekhar Sharma, Director, SAIRAM, Imphal; N. Arunkumar Singh, Faculty, SAIRAM; Oinam Priyokumar Singh, Secretary, Governing Body, T.S. Paul Manipur Women’s College; and Ksh. Devendra Singh, Principal, T.S. Paul Manipur Women’s College.
The workshop aims to raise awareness and promote understanding of non-chemical strategies for plant health management, focusing on sustainable alternatives to synthetic pesticides. With growing concerns over the environmental and health impacts of chemical use in agriculture, the sessions featured discussions on biological control, cultural practices, physical methods, and biotechnological innovations. Experts from various fields shared their knowledge and research, equipping participants with practical, eco-friendly techniques to support sustainable agriculture.
Coordinated by Dr. N. Olivia Devi, Assistant Professor, SAIRAM, the workshop witnessed the participation of 41 students from T.S. Paul Manipur Women’s College and SAIRAM. The programme continues on April 28, 2025, with further technical sessions and interactive discussions.
