The Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur observed the 22nd death anniversary of its founder president, Ema Kombi, by organising a remembrance programme on Saturday.
The observance was held at Lamphel Supermarket, the site associated with the late leader, where floral tributes were paid in her memory. The programme was attended by President of Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur Soiraisam Memcha and President of Meira Paibi Welfare Association Kangleipak R Rengsongak Koireng, who took part as chief guests.
Speaking on the occasion, Soiraisam Memcha said that policies adopted by the Government of India towards Manipur since the past had consistently targeted the Meitei community and that such approaches continue even today, posing a serious threat to the state. She described the situation as deeply concerning for Manipur’s future.
She further said the ongoing conflict and prolonged unrest in the state have severely affected the people, particularly women and internally displaced persons, who are struggling to return to their homes. She alleged that the imposition of President’s Rule has further aggravated the suffering of the people and called for collective efforts to safeguard Manipur’s interests.
Paying tribute to the late Ema Kombi, speakers recalled her lifelong dedication and contributions to social causes and women’s movements in Manipur. They said her ideals and sacrifices continue to inspire the present generation.
Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur reaffirmed its commitment to carry forward the vision and legacy of Ema Kombi in the interest of the people of Manipur.
