Tribute paid to Dr. K. Binodkumar Singh on 78th Birth Anniversary

Imphal, Oct 3: Fitting tribute was paid today to Dr. K Binodmukar today on his 78th Birth Anniversary.  Known for his work to promote peace and harmony in the state and a true follower of Gandhian thought, Dr. K Binodkumar left for heavenly abode after he succumbed to his injury after sustaining severe wound in a deadly blast triggered by militants on August 16 at ISKON Temple here in Imphal.
Dr. K Binodkumar Memorial Trust, founded by his wife Kangjam Ongbi Talem Ibetombi Devi, has been observing the Remembrance Day of the renowned peace warrior every year on his Birth Anniversary. Today is 10th such Remembrance Day organized by the trust at Dave Literature Center DM College Campus.
The memorial function was attended by Professor Hijam Tombi Singh, Vice –Chairman, JN Dance Academy, Imphal as the Chief Guest while Professor Laishram Sadananda Singh, Vice President of Dr. K. Binodkumar Memorial Trust, Imphal presided over the function.
On the occasion eminent Social Worker Haobam Surendrakumar Singh was honoured in recognition to his contribution in the field of Social work.
Delivering speech on the occasion, Surendrakumar expressed his gratitude to the Trust and recounted the peace initiative taken up by late Dr. K Binodkumar Singh.
He elaborated on the difference between Professional Social Worker and those working for the welfare of the people. On the other hand the eminent social worker expressed dissatisfaction to the government negligence to the professional social workers who possessed degree qualification.
“The role being played by social workers is less understand by the government, even state Prison which is now known as rehabilitation cell has not appoint any social workers till today”, Surendrakumar said. He further added that Even the RIMS which is the pride of the state only recognized the need for social workers in late 70s. He also said that people who provide welfare service are wrongly called as social worker and term this as very unfortunate.
Principal of the College of Social Work, Meitram in her speech endorse the  speech by Surendrakumar and said that the government authority now need to understand the role of professional social workers

Brief life story of late Dr. Binodkumar
Late Dr. Kangjam Binod Kumar Singh was born on Saturday, the 3rd October, 1937 at Haobam Marak, Kangjam Leikai, Imphal. Of the 5 children (4 sons and one daughter) of Kangjam Mukta Singh and Kangjam ongbi Manjuri Devi, Binod Kumar was the youngest. He has his early education in Imphal, passed Matriculation Examination from Kha-Imphal High School, did Intermediate Arts from D.M. College Imphal, Completed 4 year Degree Course in Nature Cure from Bengal. 1 year P.G. Diploma course in Nature cure from Banaras. He worked for some time as a doctor in some Nature Cure Hospitals outside Manipur. In the year 1973, Binod kumar married Kumari Telem Ibetombi Devi at Mahatma Gandhi’s Sevagram Ashram, Wardha, Maharastra Acharya Biboba Bhava blessed the newly married couple.
Dr. Binod Kumar was a born Social Worker and peace Activist. In keeping with his innate bent of mind and in response to the call of an inner voice he left his professional career and spent the remaining part of his life as a true social worker and peace builder. He was closely associated with various Gandhian organizations and other peace makers and worked tirelessly to usher in peace and development in the trouble torn and problem ridden Manipur and the North-East.
Dr. Binod Kumar Singh worked for peace, lived for peace and died for peace. He left his mortal soil on the 16th August 2006 leaving a vacuum in the world of Social service and peace culture.
