The mortal remains of Constable (General Duty) Deepak Chingakham of the 7th Battalion, Border Security Force (BSF), who was martyred in a drone attack at the Kharkhola Border Outpost (BOP) on May 10, arrived in Imphal today. A solemn wreath-laying ceremony was held at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, where governor, MPs and Security Chiefs Pay Tribute to Martyred BSF Constable Deepak Chingakham.
Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, along with top security officials, paid solemn tribute to BSF Constable Deepak Chingakham at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport in Imphal. State dignitaries and other senior officials also joined in paying their final respects to the 25-year-old soldier who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
Hailing from Yairipok Yambem in Imphal East, Constable Chingakham laid down his life while defending the nation during a recent escalation along the Indo-Pak border. According to BSF officials, Deepak had played a significant role in neutralising a Pakistani post in the days leading up to the attack, which claimed his life when a drone strike fatally injured him near the border.
As a tribute to his bravery and sacrifice, the Manipur Government has announced a financial assistance of Rs.10 lakh for the martyr’s family under the Major Laishram Jyotin Singh Ashok Chakra (P) Scheme. The state has also pledged continued support to the bereaved family, reaffirming its solidarity with the armed forces.
The ceremony at the airport was steeped in grief and pride as the tricolour-draped coffin was honoured with full military rites.
Former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, who visited the martyr’s home earlier in the day, expressed deep sorrow and praised Deepak’s selfless service to the nation. “His quiet courage and sense of duty will forever be remembered. The pride and love his family holds for him are deeply moving,” he said.
