Large number of people from various communities today paid floral tribute to the martyred PLA cadres who were killed in the infamous and deadliest gun battle between the Security force and PLA cadres at Kodompokpi in 1982 on this day at the Martyrs’ Memorial Complex located atop Cheiraoching, Thangmeiband.
Those came to pay tribute includes family members of the departed PLA cadres as well as friends and relatives from various communities across the state. Some years back paying of tributes to the PLA martyrs was prohibited by the district administration however, after the order had been challenged, the high Court of Manipur granted permission for paying tribute to the PLA martyrs. This time too the court has given permission to pay tribute to the departed soul at Chieraoching.
Tight security measures were seen taken up in and around the Martyrs’ Memorial Complex located atop Cheiraoching. Security personnel were seen deployed from the foothill to the top of the Cheiraoching. The police personnel besides verifying those people who came to pay tributes also help the people in traffic management. Volunteers from the Red cross were also present to help those coming to pay tribute since 7 am in the morning.
It may be mentioned here that nine important members of proscribed PLA including the then chief of the party Thoudam Kunjabihari of Singjamei Nameirakpam Leikai were killed in a gun battle with the Indian army at Kodompokpi village on April 13, 1982.
Other members who were killed in the incident were Thoudam Loken of Nameirakpam Leikai; Maibam Pakka of Heirok; Langpoklakpam Pakhanglakpa of Keishampat; RK Khoirumba of Moreh; Sorokhaibam Kameshwar of Heibongpokpi; Khundrakpam Chaobhal of Kwakeithel Moirang Purel; Naorem Rajen of Naorem Leikai and Moirangthem Premkumar of Tera Sapam Leirak.
Meanwhile the Revolutionary People’ Front (RPF) the political wing of the PLA extended its gratitude to all the communities and students of the state who had paid floral tribute to the martyred PLA cadres .
A statement by Roben Khuman, Deputy Secretary , Publicity of RPF said that the Martyred Day (Athoubasingi Numit was also organised at General Head Quarters, Tactical Command, Strategic Command , 252 Mobile Batallion and other department of the outfit including it central Bureau, SR-1, SR-2, SR-3 and SR-4 by paying tribute to the martyred PLAs.
The statement also thanks to both print and electronic media, transporters, Doctors, Nurses, and staffs. The armed group thank the particularly traffic police for making it convenient for the transporters.
Floral tributes were also paid at the memorial site of Kodompokpi and Tekcham.
